The appraiser should be someone who has been specifically trained for appraising quilts. Ask for a resume of their qualifications if you are not sure of their expertise. If you ever experience the heartbreak of losing a quilt through neglect, theft or a disaster like a fire, you at least have a chance of being compensated for your loss if you have insurance and a quilt appraisal.
